Gaastra is located in Iron County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We are 10 minutes away from Ski Brule and multiple recreational lakes, including Chicaugon Lake and Stanley Lake.

ELECTION NOTICE
The City of Gaastra will have one (1) Mayor Vacancy and three (3) City Commissioner Vacancies up for re-election in the upcoming August Primary or November General Election.
For City Mayor it is a one (1) year term and for a City Commissioner there is a two (2) year term & a one (1) year term which will commence in January of 2027. Parties interested in running for these vacancies should pick up a Nominating Petition and associated forms in the GAASTRA CITY CLERK’S OFFICE, 4 VALLEY, GAASTRA.
All forms must be completed and submitted to the City Clerk by 3:00 pm, April 21, 2026. Any questions concerning this matter can also be directed to the City Clerk’s office.

BLIGHT AND UNLICENSED VEHICLES
Attention Gaastra City Residents: Now that the snow is starting to melt, please check & clean yards of blight issues and unlicensed vehicles. Blight cannot be visible from the road & all unlicensed vehicles must be covered completely to the ground. In the next few weeks, blight & unlicensed vehicle warnings will be issued where necessary. There will be a 10 day period to rectify the complaints, after that fines will start to be imposed. Thank you in advance for making Gaastra look beautiful. -Debbie Tusa, Gaastra City Manager/Clerk
